Sunday 24 June Napoleonic Kriegsspiel

Sunday 24 June Napoleonic Kriegsspiel
We had another enjoyable game last Sunday with 14 attendees.
This time Red was tasked with defeating the Blue army near Metz, and exiting at least a corps along one of the roads NE to Saarlouis before nightfall. That fortress was about to fall, and in dire need of relief.
Red had a substantial numerical superiority with over 60,000 men, but suffered from shortage of time, and a limited number of roads, which were in poor condition after a week of rain. Given this, it was probably inevitable that they would struggle to bring all of their combat power to bear. In the north, churned-up roads slowed the arrival of Desnouettes' new corps, and in the centre, major traffic jams developed as Quincy's and Louvigny's corps jostled for road-space. By dusk, Blue were nevertheless on the ropes. Their line was thin, and half of their cavalry had been driven off. But the line held, Red were unable to send relief to Saarlouis, and so the fate of that fortress remains uncertain.
Our next instalment of this war will take place on Sunday 24 June, and all are welcome, especially those who have not tried one of these games before. The background story will take things on a few more weeks into the campaign, to provide interest and the context for the next battle.
You do not need to have played in either of the previous games, to play in this one however. There are no set teams, and we are hoping that some players will have a turn at both playing and umpiring during this series of games. Indeed a few may even end-up on a different team to the one they have played in previously! If you are interested in coming, please complete the poll here https://xoyondo.com/dp/Ql8EHHjk410ACkS
As ever, knowing likely attendance helps make life easy for those running it. Given that, we are asking all those planning on coming to please complete the poll by next Thursday 31 May at the latest. We can then finalise the scenario and get briefings out in good time to the two CinCs.

Re: Sunday 24 June Napoleonic Kriegsspiel
We currently have 9 (or probably 10) signed-up for this one, which is a pretty good turn-out for a summer game. In most years we take a break from games in April or May.
The third game in the series will be played on a new map, and will be set in Germany.
Once again, most players will act as corps commanders and will have a constantly updated display of what they can see, using clear plastic counter to represent brigades, battalions and squadrons.
You do not need to have played in either of the 2 previous games, to play in this one. As with our previous battles, we will be requesting these eminent gentlemen to provide orders before the game, so we hit the ground running on the day.

We have 11 signed-up for this game so far. Some of us are getting together tomorrow to design the scenario, so will work on that basis, unless anyone else pipes-up before close of play today.
That's another spiffing turn-out. In the past, attendance has tended to tail-off in the summer months.
