New Patch, (1.043), Observations
I've spent a some time integrating the KS mod into the latest patch. I've played several test games and can make a few observations.
Positives
Received messages no longer cause the courier screen to close!
The AI is significantly better.
-Cavalry is much more likely to charge nearby enemy cavalry rather than watching it ride by, destroying some hapless battalion.
-Squares that aren't fully formed will retreat and likely be ridden down.
-When one unit is forced to retreat or is routed due to melee or being chased by cavalry, it is very likely its neighbors will also fall back. This can cause quite a chain reaction.
-Units in assault column are much more likely to advance to the enemy and attempt to melee the defending line units. The line unit is at a disadvantage and has a very good chance of losing the fight and retreating. There is also a significant chance that the assault column fail their morale check and stop advancing and try to shoot it out with the enemy. They in turn have a good chance of being forced to retreat.
-Stances work better than before. Previously, units would always advance and attack no matter what stance was given. Hold and Hold at All Costs now seem to restrain the units. This is a return to SOWGB.
Negatives
MyGui is still used in the game.
Maps are still not available in the courier screen. This greatly reduces its utility.
Guns can still be captured, although the KS mod largely negates this.
Sprites sink into the ground at times when using the Waterloo maps. This is new.
Stock game still primarily uses line formation for movement around the battlefield. Again, the KS mod improves on this.
No apparent improvement in pathing. Moving units in column of division greatly helps. This is especially true when crossing streams.
No apparent improvement in LOS for artillery. It will still fire through friendly troops.
Stock artillery is still useless. The KS mod fixes this.
Overall, I think the patch greatly improves the game. Davide is to be congratulated for his work on the AI.. With the KS mod added, the battles look much more Napoleonic than the prior version. I'm sure that with more play and more people looking at the game, other improvements and possibly problems will be noticed.

I agree. Overall it seems at first few playings to be nothing but good news. A few things that people highlighted on NSDs forum as problems were missed but these appear to be the less critical things.
