A message from Bill Jennings, who is running the game.........

Looking for a few good players…

The War in 2012 is a email-based game that has been in progress for a while. It's an operational level game set in the Middle East of the near future and focuses on a conflict between forces of a notional Islamic Alliance, led by Iran, against forces of the US and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). We're presently in need of several players to be able to continue the game and hopefully bring it to a timely conclusion. At this point, the war has already started and is approximately 4 hours old. However, the main action is still very much in the future.

Both the US/GCC side (BLUFOR) and Islamic Alliance side (REDFOR) need at least two ground force players. These would command divisional to corps-size formations, with the smallest units being battalions and brigades. Game turns are 6 hours in length. We use Google Earth for mapping, with updates at the end of every turn. Each team has a website containing reports and information on forces, capabilities, etc.. Orders are via email. There are also air and naval components to the game (all of those positions are presently filled). If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me at wsjennings@gmail.com.

One critical aspect of the game needs mentioning. We have experienced numerous delays, stops and restarts practically since the game's beginning. Some of it is my fault for installing a much greater depth of detail than is usually found in games of this scale. Some of it is simply attrition of players, mostly due to demands of real life.

As part of our recent stoppage, I've gone into the system and done a complete overhaul of the game's mechanics in an effort to increase playability while retaining only what detail is necessary to maintain some sort of continuity. The goal has been to be achieve a turnaround time of 7-10 days for each 6-hour game turn (including orders, resolution, map updates, and reports), and even shorter whenever possible. I think we will be ready to operate at a vastly improved pace once play resumes.

I hope you'll consider participating in the game and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

Standby for further material on the game. In particular:

(a) A summary of the geo-political situation in 2012

(b) A brief AAR of the first 4 hours of fighting. In best kriegsspiel tradition, this will be subject to security limitations of course, so as niot to give either BLUEFOR or REDFOR information they shouldn't have at this point.

Hi Barry

That's great. Send me your email and I'll put you in direct contact with Bill.

You might want to give some thought as to whether you want to join BLUFOR or REDFOR. I'm sure that Bill will aim to meet prefereneces where possible.
