Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
Thanks I got it, now if I can get the gerbils to spin the wheel long enough to get the sprites downloaded.

Just a note if you purchase WL from Steam it is all patched up so you only needs Kevin's KS WL mods.
To find the mods folder for your Steam installation go to your Steam folder
Then- Steameapps
Then- Common
Then- Scourge of War Waterloo

A little confused
Hi there!
I wanted to give the mod a try and see if I can join in all the fun you folks are having here, so I've loaded the mods into my game.
Everything seems to be working okay except..
I can't seem to figure out how to move my general. He just kinda sits there and admires the battle from his comfy horse. No amount of clicking from any of my mouse buttons does anything.
Have I missed something?

First, welcome to the forum.
All you need do is right click on the ground in front of you, (a gold arrow with red tail will appear), and off you go. Also, did you check the "Disable Context Menu" box on the first page of the options menu?

Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
Thank you for the greeting and reply.
Hmm, not sure what is wrong. I can select a unit and right click the ground and it will go there, but I cant seem to move my general no matter what I do.
I didn't have the context menu disabled but I do now.
EDit
NVM, dunno what I did but it's working now

Are you playing HITS? If so, lower yourself in the saddle as low as you can go and try it. If that doesn't work, lower yourself and move as far forward as you can and try it. Sometimes your own flag gets in the way.

Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
It seems that if you don't set your distance at 10 it just doesn't work. No amount of clicking anywhere would allow me to move, although I could select and move any other unit.
Anyway, once my camera distance was increased everything worked fine.
Just tried an experiments game, yes playing HITS to see how workable it was, and all seems fine.
I had some issues trying Gettysburg with couriers when only using the map, as my brigade commanders would move to map locations where I wanted them, and they'd always leave all their troops behind, no matter what I tried.
I wasn't able to get map locations to work at all with this. I'd try to order a brigade to a map location, the map would open and I could click on it (ctrl click for waypoints), but nothing would happen. My only option would be to close the map, and when I did that I'd be back at my normal screen. No courier dispatched. Do I have to use some 'confirm' hotkey that will lock the location and close the map, returning me to the courier screen?
Getting there!

To move a brigade via the command map, (pressing the N key), is easy. Select the place where you want to move the brigade. Then press the button of the formation you want them to assume when they get there. If you don't give the brigade a formation, just the commander will move.

Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
Aha!
Yes, that works. Thank you.
What doesn't work is opening Courier, selecting Orders, move to map location.
Thanks for infos!

No, we can no longer use the command map in the courier system. NSD's ill considered use of MyGui makes that impossible.

Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
I own SoWW and it is updated to latest patch. (I do not own SoWGB.)
I have the three mods necessary for KS installed and appropriately checked.
The game will open through user scenarios. Clicking on a map which has a country name and is not a GB map results in a loading screen which freezes.
A report of the appropriate level not being found appears. The game then stops responding/crashes out.
I have not got a clue what to do next ... silent
Advice is sought: thank you.

What are the last few lines of your sowwl.log file? It can be found in my documents/sowwl.

Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
Can you select a map in sandbox mode and get the game to run? If not, you may not have unpacked the files properly. Here is a picture of what the folder structure for all the KS mods should look like. You will not have the GB lsl Files folder as you do not have Gettysburg.
The 2nd possibility is that you have not selected the mods in the mods screen.

Can you play a sandbox game with one of the country maps?

No. Every attempt ends in a crash if the path taken is anything different from the vanilla/stock game in single player, sandbox, or user scenarios.

I see from your logfile you sent via PM that you are using the Grog toolbar. Deactivate that mod and report back to us again please.

Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
When you unpacked the mods, you must have created a file structure like this: \KS SOW Supplemental Maps111\KS SOW Supplemental Maps111\... That's the only situation that could explain your problem. Either that or you don't have any lsl files in the \KS SOW Supplemental Maps111\Maps folder.

Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
Volunteer sent me a logfile by PM and he has 100s of missing sprite files so it looks like Sprites 102 is either missing or not installed correctly.
Volunteer, have you had a previous version of the KS Mod working okay or have you not used it yet?
Can you open the various KS folders in the mods folder of SOWWL and take a screenshot of that for us. It does sound like one of the 3 mods is just not installed right.
Have you changed any of the folder names? SOW won't accept a mod folder name with a "." (period) in it, so for example, "KS Mod II 1.17" would not work.

Some progress
Mr. Digby the latest KS Mod 117 is the only version I have ever tried to use, therefore no previous versions had ever been opened.
No folders have been changed whatsoever.
I reinstalled the sprites folder and got some limited results. No maps opened other than these few:
Austrian scenario 5, and British scenario 6 and I enjoyed and hour or more admiring the labour of love which the makers of the mod have put into it!
So progress of sorts but the gremlins are still about. Thanks for your help, fellas, please continue.

Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style
Hi Volunteer
Based on my experience, it may be that you're rushing the process. This is what I do when downloading a new mod. I open the SOW Mods folder and then right click on the folder pane. I then wait until the new files self-extract, before hitting paste. If I do not, I sometimes end-up installing an incomplete mod. This sounds like what you're experiencing. Just try taking it slowly, and see if that works.
Hope that helps.
