Have you ever played a game through to completion with that size of a scenario? If so, try restarting with one of the later saves, and see if the game picks up where you left off and will still run to completion.

I did with 1.34 but all of those save games are gone. The new save procedure chokes up my recycle bin but I can live with it.

I still suggest you upload the scenario and the save that fails so I can take a look. Offhand I don't see why the size of the save would be an issue. As I said, it could be a bug that causes the crash. When we find a bug, it's usually as a result of a crash and a restart that won't work.

Ever heard the phrase "The best laid plans of mice and men usually work out about equal?"

So I had accidentally botched up the original file and rather than try to recreate it I just created a new scenario where 5 allied divisions tried to cross a river on the France_Nancy_RM map figuring that when it crashed I could send that to you. It did not crash. It ran through to the bloody conclusion. For the hell of it I went back, picked one of the later saves and restarted from that point to see what the savegame routine did. No good. It worked.

HOWEVER, while doing that I noted that while the save game files grew in size they never exceeded the 6,000k mark. They got close. 5,800K for the last one but did not go over it.

So today I am going to go back in and add two more allied divisions to the scenario. That should get it over the 6,000k level and I'll see what happens. 8 gigs of RAM doesn't seem like it should have a problem with a 6 meg file but I've never understood memory usage in Windows.

So here's what happend.

Two more allied divisions were added as stated.

I had set the auto save routine to 10 minutes.

The initial autosave0 began at 5567KB and it gradually increased up through automulti6 which registered 5956KB at 9:53PM.

At some point in the next 10 minutes the game clock clicked to 11:00 AM and the second Allied Division came into play. I did see it start to move on the Navigation map.

Automulti7 registered 6147KB at 10:03 PM.

At 10:04 PM the game CTD'd.

If you like I can zip the scenario file for you but it looks to me as if the 6000K mark is some kind of red line.

Yes, zip up your scenario folder and the last 2 save file. I'll take a look. Was this an MP game? If so, how many players were involved?

I noticed that you are saving the game every 10 minutes. The game must have crashed sometime after 11:20:39. It may have crashed as it was writing the save file, or anytime within the next 10 minutes. If you shorten the save interval, I use 3 min., it makes finding problems easier.

It was an MP solitaire game. Just me and the AI but at least I can write a script for the AI to follow.

I made it 10 minutes because I was suspicious of the new save routine as part of the problem. Never changed it back.

Email with the files was just sent to you.

I'll leave the game alone while you are looking at it in case you find something that needs testing. I think I'll spend the day trying to figure out why the 8 gigs of memory this computer claims to have is flummoxed by a 6 meg save file!

Applied the fix and set up a truly massive scenario on the 10-mile Borodino map with 10 allied divisions attacking 3 French Divisions and 3 reserve artillery battalions. Most of the French are just standing around taking up RAM which was the intent.

The beginning size of the scenario was almost 8,000k and in two subsequent saves that has grown to just under 10,000K. It continues to run perfectly. I already stopped it and restarted after the first save without issue.

Offhand, Uncle Billy, I'd say you fixed the problem....whatever it was!

I'm not able to run any scenario with this version. Every time it all stops at "Loading Experience Levels" with Memory allocation error, telling me to lower map and uniform settings (which doesn't help ofc).

Should time stamp change after loading map? This looks weird.

I've downloaded modules file I've found on discord and replaced the dll file inside the mod, but it doesn't change anything, except showing different version number in the log

I made terrible mistake of deleting previous version of the mod (one I used a year or two ago), so now I'm pretty much stuck with vanilla as I can't find any older version anywhere.

Are you trying to play Single Player or Multi Player?

I've had that exact same issue with MP games and I can tell you it has nothing to do with uniforms or building levels.

In my case it was writing a battlescript for a 6:00 AM start time and having a time format problem with the leading "0" in 06:00. I have solved that in two ways. One by dropping the first 0 in the script time command and second ( ever easier ) starting games at 10:00 am.

You seem to be playing one of the stock scenarios re-written for KS. I'm not well-versed on those but these guys around here know their stuff.

Hi rschilla.
I was trying to start single player game - from "user scenarios", but the same thing happens when I try sandbox option. Don't know anything about MP.
The scenario in the log "KS QB03 - The Braunschweig (A-Brig)" is probably one of the stock scenarios made for the mod, but it's just an example. I've tried starting many other scenarios from the list (usually selecting scenario with highest number for every side) and the effect is the same every time.

As for battlescript, I have no idea how to approach this, but I just noticed that in the log, after loading the map, timestamp changes to the time of the scenario it tries to run, which seems weird (no idea if that's how it's supposed to work).

So I loaded up the scenario in question and it loaded and started to run fine. Whether or not that would ave continued is open to debate as it looks from the .log file that there are some path finding errors on the map. I wouldn't worry too much about the time changing. That just look likes your computer recording the initial steps after you tell it to run the program and then switching over to "game time" when it hits the scenario.ini file.

If I had to guess, and guess is the operative word, I would say that there is some problem with your installation. Uncle Billy is your expert for this. Here's the .log file I got for that scenario.

Thank you for checking that. Looks like we have the same game version, so at least I know that it should work.
No idea how my installation could be broken - just reinstalled everything. Vanilla works.

What's that "GB_lsl files" mod you have? It looks like the only difference...

It's a map thing that allows you to use certain Gettysburg maps (Gettysburg far preceded SOW:WL) It shouldn't matter for the QB map but who knows?

It looks like there are 2 problems. The first is that I forgot to modify the QB scenarios for use with the KS mod. To fix that, go to each KS QB folder in the scenarios folder open scenario.ini in a text editor and change map=QB to map=Nap_Bel_Quatre_Bras.

The second appears to be that the Collectors Edition of the game has a different version of the executable than the other versions of the game. Have you been able to play MP games with people that don't own the Collectors Edition?

Just changed the map entry in scenario.ini for one scenario and tried to start it - no change.
As for MP - I never tried it.

Unfortunately I need 10 posts to be able to use private message option, so I'm going to post here (getting ever closer to unlocking it)

I really doubt my problem has anything to do with a virus or trojan, but just to be sure I've scanned everything with MS Defender, Avast and Malewarebytes just now. All came up negative.

I'm really sorry about triple posting - that's never going to happen again.
I just wanted to add one more thing: While I can't run any user scenario, with mod active I can start any main SP scenario from "Waterloo Battles" section. Even if the same scenario won't start when selected form "User Scenarios". Weird.

THAT sounds like an installation problem.

Go into your main SOW:WL directory in Windows File Explorer.

Find the MODS Folder.

Find KS Napoleon Mod II 136.  The left side should say

Click on it.  The right side should say  "Graphics"  "Layout" "Logistics" etc.  

If instead the right side says KS Napoleon Mod II 136 again you have duplicated the install.  Don't feel too bad.  It's a beginner's error although I am not a beginner and it happened to me, too, with 136.

Uncle Billy can probably tell you the correct procedure for correcting it.  I simply erased the whole thing and reinstalled 1.36 being very careful to take the last extraction from the zip file.


Go back to the 4th and 5th posts in this thread and you'll see where that happened!

That's unfortunately not it, rschilla. I wish it was, but no.

No idea what's wrong with my install. I'm going to check for Windows updates, reinstall some libraries, like VC++ or something. If this won't help, then I'm obviously not meant to be able to play this mod now. scratch

It's not reading the mod which is why you are getting the scenarios for Vanilla.
