I think you have to have 5 posts before you can upload anything. Can you copy and paste the output in the SOWWL.log file? It is located in the Documents\SOWWL folder.

I may have found the problem.
It seems that when I unpacked the mods they created a duplicate directory at the top of the structure. I cut and pasted everything up a level and it appears to be working.

Apologies, perhaps a case of "old dogs and new tricks" Ho hum.

Glad to hear it works now. However, you have the Grog toolbar also activated. That won't work with the KS mod.

I've recently discovered and installed this mod and it looks great! Truly a great mod, however there are no marching sounds or shooting sounds that I've discovered. Are there any possible fixes? Thanks.

The sounds are there. The likely problem is that the correct options are not set. Go to page 3 of the Game's Options menu. Check the Play Map Sounds and Play March Music.

Thanks for the advice, but I believe the problem is something else. The rest of the sounds are there, it's just specifically the unit movement and combat sounds that are missing. I tried doing the settings and that didn't fix it. I tried doing a fresh install of the game, and that didn't work either. Could it be something to do with my system or the download?

Having some sounds but not others must be a games settings issue. Did you press the Apply Options button after enabling the settings of page 3? If you had no sounds at all, I'd say it is a computer sound setting issue.

Yeah, I pressed the apply options button. It is a very strange issue, and when I go back to the vanilla game all the sounds come back.

Hi, I am trying to extract the KS mod, and in both the Napoleon mod II file and the map file there is always an error saying "An error occured: cannot extract archive". This happens at the file OOB_SB_KS_NAP_SKIRM_Poland_1807_with_Prussians.csv which is file 1091 out of 1131 for the main mod folder, and Maps124/Maps/Klimovitchi_Rus_KS.IsI, the 612 out of 648 files. The sprite download works fine. I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it, and I have seen no other questions about this problem.

I am using 9zip and when I attempted to use 7zip only a few files were actually extracted. I am using windows 10 and have had no issues playing the vanilla game or Les Cent Jours. I downloaded the files from the post at the beginning of this thread from Thu Jun 18, 2015 5:20 pm. If there is a newer version to get a link would be much appreciated.

While I am asking questions, the files that do download are playable, but marching sounds seem to be gone, I'm not sure if this is due to my stated issue or if there is something else I need to fix.

Thank you all, and apologies if this is posted in the wrong spot/is a stupid question. I can answer any questions anyone may have to help me.

I'm not sure what is causing your problem. The files were packed with 7zip version 19.00, 64 bit. Are you running it with admin privileges?

Kevin - did you adjust the smoke and sounds though? When I played on Friday I noitced there was almost no smoke at all, it was there but nearly transparent and the volley I delivered was entirely silent. I would like to have the old smoke and sounds back; which version of the mod would they be in? Or are they just the default ones?

Hello,

I always wanted to use your mod. Started today (a little late I know).
Made a clean Steam install of soww. Followed the procedure in the first post.

Two things look weird:
- 'in user scenarios' I have all KS scenarios plus Ligny/Quatre Bras/Wavre (look like stock) scenarios but no Waterloo scenarios. Is it normal ? How playable are stock scenarios with the mod enabled ?
- i cannot find how to play HITS and with full fog of war. The option is blocked and when I start a KS scenario I'm not in HITS.

The vanilla/stock/DLC scenarios are probably not super playable with the mod. Something about the formations the mod uses being different than the formations used in the stock game. It might work but have some weird behavior, or some of them the AI might just not work at all. There is a scenario generator for the mod which makes making your own scenarios pretty easy should it interest you.

On page one of this post there's a list of options you need to change to put the game in HITS, but I'll just paste it here for ease.

On the Options screen page 1
Disable Context Menu: checked (Otherwise you will have to click somewhere on the toolbar before you can select another command such as a formation.)

On the Options screen page 2
% trees showing: 75
Display off map trees: unchecked
Max transparent trees: 80
Make walls transparent w/trees: unchecked
Max terrain draw distance: Best
Show Map Objects: Best
Show off-map terrain: unchecked
Max # artillery hit decals: 50
Max units draw distance: 1000
Max trees draw distance: 1000
Max objects draw distance: 1000

If you are hosting the battle these are the host option settings.

Preset difficulty levels: Custom
Map icons display level: Bare Map
Max camera distance from you: 10
Orders by courier at this command level and above: Brigade
Uniform quality: Best
Show map objects: Best
Sprite ratio: 5 or 6

First, welcome to the forum.

The stock scenarios are not very compatible with the KS mod. I've heard that a few are, but many are not.

To set up the game for HITS play, start the game and go to the Options Page, page 1. Set the Difficulty Level to Custom. Set the Orders By Courier to Brigade. Set Map Display to Bare Map. Use the slider under Max Camera Distance From You to set whatever distance you are comfortable with. We use 10 yd. Be sure to check the box Disable Context Menu at the bottom right. Press the Apply Options button when finished.

That should get you started.

Hello to all. I'd like to echo previous user. I always wanted to play the original scourge of war waterloo scenarios with the kriegsspiel mod but always got bugs and crashes. The main thing I wished to get by using the mod is a possibility to make units fight in the column formation but this mod worked unstable. I have tried the other mods but the units always form a line and that's all. Can't we have any way to play the vanilla scenarios with columns fighting?

The problem is that the balance of combat attributes and abilities with the KS Mod is quite different from the vanilla game. There is a whole new toolbar and new formations and orders. The vanilla scenarios are written with a different rulebook and drill manual (in effect) and the two are not compatible.

There are now dozens and dozens of additional scenarios and maps provided by the KS Mod. I'm sure you'll find many of these as, if not more challenging than the stock scenarios. There are other nations provided and some of these, such as the Spanish, 1806 Prussians and Revolutionary-period Austrians bring their own unique challenges in terms of efficiency or tactical flexibility.

Hello. One of the things I notice for sure is that the cav will not always follow commands even when TC’d. I have had full 3 hour games where battalions of cav never engage and will just fall back or run away.

While this is better than the OP cav like in the base game I’m curious about this and the best way to play it. I’m wondering if AI command is better than TC command for cav and even infantry? Why does the cav do this and what is the best approach overall when it comes to AI vs TC?
