US Naval War College materials for a naval Kriegsspiel
When I was researching for a Russo-Japanese War naval battle I plan to run, I stumbled across all of these freely available resources for naval Kriegsspiels.
The Chart Maneuver, 1920
These is the War Collegeʻs 1920 rules for a naval Kriegsspiel. In addition to rules, it contains a lot more general information on Kriegsspiel design and play, which could be helpful to people running land Kriegsspiels. It would of course also be helpful in staging conflicts of that period
Maneuver Rules, 1940
This is their 1940 rules. It doesnʻt have any of the "fluff" from 1920ʻs rules, but it would still be good for a WW2 era naval game. It has a very helpful index at the start.
The Conduct of Maneuvers, 1940
This contains the fluff from the 1920 rules and rules for board maneuvers, which use cardboard cutouts of ships instead of drawing lines with chalk
Hints on the Solution of Tactical Problems
This is a guide on making and implementing plans that can be used by players in a Kriegspiel
Problems for Solution by Army Officers in the Canal Zone
These are tactical problems for officers manning the Panama Canal that could easily be adapted for Kriegsspiel.
