Re: Impromptu Games
I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST.
Friday's battle had ~130,000 men on the field. The Austrians held the high ground and managed to fend off the a number of French attacks. Below is a quick painting made by Digby's personal artist.
Today we are playing as everyone's favorite army, 1806 Prussian, on everyone's favorite map, Meckel.

Last time I played (too long ago, I know), I picked-up on the fact that the Meckel map is not everyone's cup of tea.
I've always had a soft-spot for it, and was wondering why folks have reservations about it?

The Meckle map is awesome but the pathing for the roads is really whacky and in the city with river running through it, it is down right difficult.

Re: Impromptu Games
It's a great map to defend on, but it's a nightmare to attack. Since the AI doesn't take into account the terrain features when moving, such as rivers, buildings, etc., it makes it very hard to get one's troops across these obstacles.

I can play today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST, although I may be a few minutes late.
Sunday's battle was a complete victory for the Prussians, although one division showed the white feather halfway through the fight. With the high ground, even the 1806 Prussians can win.
Today we will be Austrians fighting on the Kelheim map.

Tues. Battle saw the Austrians withstanding a furious French assault. It is said that the Kaiser is even handing out a few medals. Mine is suppose to be large, gold and shiny.
Today we are the French, trying to escape from Russia.

No joy yet getting a new download link for the game from Slitherine/Matrix so I won't be there again today

Re: Impromptu Games
Doubt I will be able to play. I could host one and not play an active command but if the game crashed then you'd have to somehow contact me through my television, whilst I viewed Antique Road show!

In Friday's battle, Prince Eugene's Corps was able to extricate Davout's from a Russian encirclement. This was very fortunate as it appeared that it was every man for himself in III Corps. One division cut and ran almost as the battle started, leaving the other to fend for itself. Obviously, the stress of the Russian winter was taking its toll.
Today we will be fighting the Prussians near Ramillies.

As the cutter-and-runner (of no little skill I might add) I resent that accurate description! I did at least tell Ledru I was leaving - its not my fault he chose to ignore my wise advice.
I shall be there today to do or die... though probably neither if the cut-and-run fever strikes again.

I can play chaps but might be a little late. Hoping it will be no later than 7.15 but can't guarantee. I'll give an ETA when I know more.

Tues. game was a little bit of a surprise for Mike who was initially attacked on three sides by four divisions. However, our other two British divisions quickly came on the scene and put matters right. It was an overwhelming victory with the French in complete disarray.
Today we will be the French.

Awesome! Our greatest C-in-C is in the saddle. I can be there as a reliable (or not so reliable, depending on how hard the poo hits the fan) division commander.

Thank you Digby for elevating my self confidence. I am sure Kevin is modifying the AI script as we speak to ensure I get crushed

We were crushed, and Kevin didn't need to hack any code at all

Re: Impromptu Games
It takes a special kind of commander to get his command in a situation where a simple defeat would be viewed as a positive result. Tearfully, we didn't have one like that yesterday.
