KS Map Modding Project
I have gone through all the maps available (I think - shout if I missed any) to list them by type and geographical region. This will let the map modders easily select which map to work on next. I have broken the maps down into 4 categories:
1) Random Maps made for us by Garnier with no fences or buildings. These will be the quickest and simplest to convert as we really only need to add European buildings consistent with the geographical location of place names on the minimap. I am going to begin on these and suggest others do as well, they should be fast to get done. Some have our old style stone enclosures on representing towns so bear this in mind when working on them as these do not show up in the editor. However if you have the maps .bmp file open as you work, the enclosures show up on here.
2) Random Maps made by Garnier for ACW games but which we have jpegs and lsl files for in our mods. These maps have been around a very long time. Kevin has never done minimaps for them so these will need doing; they therefore have no geographic location. This opens them up for use in any region and we can substitute snow textures to get us more winter maps if we want. They have no fences or buildings. These will also be quick to convert and might make good test beds for new techniques.
3) ACW maps from the Gettysburg game and mod community which we converted for use originally with the Nap Mod for that game. These have American features such as rail fences and wood colonial buildings and bridges. We do however have a geographical location for them via the minimaps. These require more work. The German 10 mile map is different in that it has no fences or buildings but due to sheer size is a lot of work to just put buildings on.
4) ACW maps from the Gettysburg mod community which we never converted for use with the Nap Mod for that game and which I've classed as "poor quality". This is for a variety of reasons (e.g. dense vegetation, small size or special graphics) and these maps should probably be given the lowest priority.
5) Napoleonic maps released with Waterloo or made by the modding community for that game. These are finished and ready for use. Use them as inspiration or as a source of building, vegetation and texture sets in other maps.

BUILDING SETS AVAILABLE
Use this list as a guide to select which suitable buildings (collected into .dat files) to use on a map.
NW Europe (use Waterloo maps = WL.dat and WL_PM.dat)
Germany - in progress from Pom and Crikey (Deutsche.dat)
Italy (use Crikeys 1859 Italian War Mod = Italy.dat [58Mb version dated 02 Oct 2016])
Poland/Russia (use Crikey's 1854 Crimea Mod = Russia.dat, Russia2.dat)
Poland/Russia snow (use Eylau, Smolensk and Russia Alpine maps = Russia.dat, Russia2.dat)
Spain/Portugal (use Montana Segrada/Rio Espanol maps = Crimea.dat, Italy.dat and SP_package.dat)
Egypt/N Africa/Levant (use Crikey's Egypt map)
Note: there is also a Sikh Wars Mod by Crikey if we ever need more exotic trees and buildings (Wellesley in India, Brits v French in the Caribbean?)
There are a number of .dat files from various original (NSD) and add-on (community) maps that contain items like clutter and bridges. CVILLE.dat has some useful mid-19th C industrial and city buildings as does McPherson.dat.
For vegetation not only do these maps offer a wide range of trees, shrubs, waterside plants and crops but we also have the Elkhorn Tavern and Prairie Grove maps to supply autumn condition vegetation.
Our biggest problem is a lack of any half-timbered German style buildings. I'm going to approach the modding community and see if we can get some made. For this reason I suggest we don't work on any German/Austrian maps until we have these.

Re: KS Map Modding Project
Edited the main list.
I have begun work on France 4L_722 and Poland 6L_1.
I'm looking at Portugal_PPT as a project to check the floating vegetation error.
I've marked Phil as working on Austria_Brandy since he keeps mentioning it and I think he likes ripping up railroads!

I've played KSFrenchScenario13 which uses the Nap_Spain_RandomMaps4L_72 map.
Do these maps remain without buildings?

Re: KS Map Modding Project
I guess my next question is....
How do I add them? Are there tools in the SDK for this?

Re: KS Map Modding Project
Yes, the NSDTools folder has a program named lstudio. It is the program used for map making. There is no manual for its use though.

Re: KS Map Modding Project
I'd got as far as finding "Landscape Studio" for which there is a help file.... I guess I'll have to start it up and see.

If you have specific questions, there are several people here that may be able to answer them.
