Rob Cresswell would like to play in the N Atlantic convoys game. He would also be happy with any role.

We have about 10 players so far for the April game, but would like more. Please post here if you are intending to come.

So far almost everone has been very flexible on what they would like to do in the game. This is very noble, but we are now at the point where it would assist the organisers if you could plump for Allies, Germans or Umpires Smile

Allies, as I may have already said, though not the main position in authority! Wink

Also, Martin, thank you for the Mitchell & Webb link. Very Happy

Yes you did, but thanks for confirmation. This particular k/spiel seems a bit like our Gettysburg pc games - so far everyone has raced for the door when senior command is on offer. I guess we need David Mitchell.

The April game sounds really interesting, but unfortunately can't make it. Hope all goes well.

Yes I'm really looking forward to it..........but feeling pretty lonely on the short-staffed German team at the moment. Come on you sea-wolves. Where are you?

Hopefully we'll see you for some of the autumn games Dave.

alright dad seeing as your feeling lonely i would like to put myself forward for anything on the german side, with a preference for something on the intelligence or airforce side of things but if we cant find an overall commander ill take that role

i would of course, as a general rule, prefer any position that allows me to boss the old man around....just saying is all

We now have 11 definites plus 2 possibles for the Sunday 15th April kriegsspiel on the 1943 U-boat campaign in the North Atlantic.

The nature of the game (committee-based) means we could easilly accommodate more, especially on the Allied team. So if you've been thinking of coming, it's not too late to sign-up.

The game is in our usual venue in little Gaddesden, near Berkhamstead and Hemel Hempstead, starting at 11 am.

The next few UK games - Page 2 Empty And the debrief will be at....

Post  gunboat diplomat Wed Apr 11, 2012 8:49 pm

Dear all

Just picking up on previous posts.

I propose those in attendance gather at the local pub for an hour afterwards. This will give us an opportunity to debrief the game in comfort.

However most importantly I think we should address the points martin and others have raised on the future and consider how we spread the load and take things forward once Martin takes a less prominant role.

I hope thats something most if not all those attending can buy in to!

Warmest regards

Steve

I definitely support the idea of some leisurely social time afterwards, it makes sense to clear away the game quickly and have the debrief in comfort!

Sounds like a good plan. Have checked with those I'm driving to the game, and we are up for it.

Although I know it might be a bit of trouble.

If at all possible, would I be able to play remotely? Unfortunately there is a distinct lack of Kriegspiel taking place out in the Southwestern United States. If someone were able to just put a laptop with Skype somewhere in the room, I would still be able to play, without being there. I know it does sound a bit of work compared to the usual toil, but I would love the chance to play an actual game of Kriegspiel. Not to mention, what could be more realistic then me having to "radio in" my moves! Very Happy

Nonetheless, I'd love to hear opinions on this idea!

We are lucky to get mobile signal in the village and I doubt they have any wireless coverage. The UK is only just (in some areas) getting decent broadband speeds. Our infrastrucure is constrained by not enough land and too much history...

It is something that I have contemplated and now we have people playing at a set time the PC game it is not too much of a shift to try and do something from the home to allow players around the world to join in.

If the WWW was a bit better in the village it might certainly be possible as you would get a Ref to talk to you and obtain your input. I will have a look out to see if the village has any wireless hotspots... But I guess nothing for this game...

Just my 2p to an interesting idea...

Worth taking a laptop along to check for any signals though.

If we did have coverage I think it would be a great idea.

Was assuming that Digby was intending to bring one. Is that right, Diggers?

If not, one of my sons can bring theirs.

I can bring a wireless-equipped one, yes. We would need to 'steal' someones unsecured signal though Wink

There might be an easier way for remote presence at a game though. Phone texts?

Post  gunboat diplomat Sat Apr 14, 2012 4:25 pm

I think it would be really interesting to see how we could make this work. i dont think we can do anything realistically for sunday. However if as a first pass we see if we can get web access tomorrow it opens up possibilities.

One to progress i think in slower time.

We should bear in mind the time difference. An 11:00am start in Britain is 6:00am on the US east coast and 3:00am Pacific so I do wonder how useful this would be.

Mobile phone access is not good at Little Gaddesden, so I suspect wireless internet is our best bet. Of course that may be poor as well, but tomorrow should tell. Perhaps all we need to in the first instance is check whether any wireless networks are in range. Do we actually have to hook-up to one?

We can also ask Paulette what the position is. There may even be one we could use legitimately.

That would be best, then if we are given the access key we are good to go.
