User Scenarios and AI behavior
Hi all
So getting my paws back into WL -- and it was great talking to you guys on TS again and trying to be a CinC of a forlorn hope -- I was going into the set of user scenarios and tried a few as Russians. Other than my artillery shooting at things, my other units fared less well in behavior. Cavalry maybe 50% of the time reacted in a reasonable fashion to opposing forces. Some charges and a lot of flat out retreats without provocation. ... but ESPECIALLY my infantry -- never took an action in anger ... literally just stood there while being shot at ... just stood there while being assaulted ... never going into square while cavalry was planted next to them
is that a product of there being fog on the map (saw it for sure under those conditions) or are those scenarios in need of update?
Any advice or comments?

Hi Pat. Its difficult to comment without have a saved game but that sounds very broken to me!
AI responses depend a lot on the stance the brigade commander is given and TCing him will also affect his subordinate units response. TCing any unit switches off ALL of its AI responses - I know you know this but thought it worth mentioning in case this is what you'd done without realising it in the heat of battle.

Re: User Scenarios and AI behavior
Well ok it has been a little while since I have done a solo game vice multiplayer. In multiplayer my span of control is smaller a d of course in these scenarios it is at corps level. So i rarely explore Brigade dynamics in heat of battle since I often TC regiments at that point.
So if i TC the brigade commander and give him no posturing then in effect the brigage has no order whatsover.
BUT
Does that truly impact a non TC regiment 25 yards away just sitting there getting shot at and taking no action at all? I mean no action. Stand and get shot. Stand and take fire. Never form square. Ever.
So i will play again and if i see those dynamics i will save the file. WL is a rare game for me in that i enjoy the single player mode. AI is definitely more challenging to fight against than most.
Thanks!

I can't explain your observations unfortunately. I'd need a save game to see it in action.
I never fight a command bigger than a division, I don't enjoy corps command at all.
