You should turn off the target radar in KS games.

You should turn off the target radar in KS games.

is this in sowwl.ini showtarget=0?

this way the scouting concept is totally purged out of the game since you need to ride your avatar with a unit in order to scout...
if that's the requirement, then cool... ok... on the other hand that stops from detaching battalions on crucial spots for observing purposes - but was there anyone that gamey to do so??

if I send cavalry 500 yards from me I think it's reasonable that I can see at least that they've spotted the enemy??

Turning the radar off is optional but recommended.

A general (player) should never be more than about 250yds from his nearest unit.

If we all play to those guidelines we all play under the same conditions so its fair.

The radar info from your units arrives too quickly, is too accurate and ignores any enemy units that may be between the unit and the general, so while I understand your point, the implementation in the game is very unhistorical and isn't something we in the KS group likes to see in use.

Now if NSD had made the unit send a courier with this information in MP in the same way your brigade commanders and battery commanders do in SP it would be great, but for some reason they chose not to Sad

I would have to agree with MIKO here. If he is at his lines and sends cav forward 500yds that is not unreasonable to use the radar as you call it. I prefer to think of it as the ingame way of receiving information from your units since there is now way in MP for them to report. That is a fault in the MP platform and I wish there was a way to fix it.

I do not always use the radar either but if others are using it and it is players choice I would use it. It is a fine line although it gives you quicker info but by not using it you are restricted to what you see and not what you whole command sees. I bet this is the coding that Kevin can not get too.

There is no way that we can mod the game to turn on the radar for certain troops and disable it for others.

Can we disable it entirely for everyone? That would be my preference as then we all know its not in use.

I can play today as well. I haven't worked on the Ligny map scenario I was creating but could finish if there is interest.

Its a 2 divs vs 2 divs encounter fight.

There is no way to enforce it to be disabled. That would require another button on the host's option page but we don't have access to that part of the code.

By all means, finish your scenario.

Well... I just declared I'll switch the "radar" off... It's fairer if everyone plays with the same settings.
Is it possible, though to add the button or courier order, so when subordinate unit selected and sent the order via courier it will sent back courier saying if enemy in sight or not? I thought this could be possible as you program AI behaviour according to what are the distances between enemy/friendly units... Is there a condition/flag - IN_SIGHT? (that would be perfect) or... enemy in range... so anything within range of 500 yards would be considered visible...

If I feel good enough I'll go play some board games in a pub after work... but If I'm not that well or too tired then I'll probably join you tonight.

A message from a brigade commander does tell when he first sights an enemy unit but not it's relative location. However, we turned off messages from subordinates to eliminate the message spam we were suffering. Unfortunately, it's all or nothing.

I'll be at work till late today... so if Mike and Phil want a game, we can start hour later 20.00 GMT and shorter scenario... maybe even 2h... just Russians storming OG on a hill or something Smile
