Napoleonic artwork

Post  Mr. Digby on Sun Jan 24, 2016 11:29 am

I found some nice modern paintings of British artillery at Waterloo and in the Peninsular and thought I'd share. It would be useful if other members could give links to lesser-known Napoleonic art in case Kevin wants to add some as flash screens in the KS SOW Mod.

My favourite is Sillery's company at Talavera, the viewpoint looking up onto a rise is unusual and effective.

Just as I changed my avatar you show us this, Mr. Digby! Evil or Very Mad  Some lovely stuff in this site. I am tempted to change my avatar to 'Napoleon at Toulon'. How dare you tempt us with baubles, Sir! No

I love sites like this. They fruitfully occupy half and hour's perusal and inform the mind. Thanks for posting. Smile

Nicked.
I was rather partial to the Roman about to be flattened by a large stone.

I began wasting my afternoon scrolling through from page 1. I found this picture especially curious. It feels so weird to see a submarine alongside a wooden dock with Confederate troops on it! One thinks of WW2 wolf packs and grizzled bearded Nazi submariners in the context of this weapon of war. Or maybe the Hunt for Red October. Seeing Rebel uniforms makes my brain twist in odd directions.

Its a great painting though.
