0600 June 10: 5. Volksarmee / 2nd Guards Tank Army (elements)

8. Mot Schützen Division:

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn218xgr40y1pv

1) The vitally important bridge near the mouth of the Elbe-Lübeck Kanal is taken completely intact and UNDEFENDED: fast elements of the 8. Aufklärungsbataillons (ReconBat.) advance past Scharbeutz and plan to conduct early recon of possible defensive positions in the area of Malente-Lütjenberge.

2) MotSchRgts 28 and 29 deploy in battle formation in order to engage and destroy spotted elements of what appear to be at least 2 bataillons of PanzerGrens, 2 units of combat and bridging engineers as well a detachment of Leopard 1s. However a well coordinated strike of an on-call flight of 30 Su-25 manages to completely destroy all present 11 Leopard 1s within the first half hour of the engagement!
Having reached attack positions it is to be expected that those two regiments will force the river crossing in the town center to pin the enemy in place while the rest of the Division encircles Lübeck from the SW.

3) This maneuver will be conducted by the fast elements of the division: PanzerRgt 8 and MechSchRgt 27. Once the encirclement is complete these two forces will immediately resume their push northwards while MotSchRgts 28 and 29 stay behind and ensure that the present enemy forces have been eliminated or forced to surrender before they continue their march north.
On a side note: Fast recon units of the 8. PanzerRgt have caught a 24 vehicle battery of M109 self-propelled guns on the road towards Lübeck. Acting in accordance to doctrine they immediately attacked them and called for an air strike, which managed to destroy a reported 12 vehicles!
Furthermore a supporting move my recon elements of 9 PanzerDiv has been coordinated as to cut off any possible retreat route for these vitally important enemy vehicles.

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn240crtq8egp1

9. Panzerdivision

1) All forces of 9. Panzer are able to cross the Elbe-Lübeck Kanal without enemy resistance and manage to penetrate deep into enemy territory within the first hours. Enemy resistance is only encountered later on in the form of a few combined Leopard 1 / Fuchs Spähpanzer units as well as what appears to be another Regiment of 2 Panzergrenadierbtl. and a Det. of Leopard 1s. According to doctrin a few units of the 9. Panzer are deployed to pin the enemy while the rest pushes past the enemy positions and will attempt to encircle them completely within the next hours!

Lead Elements of the 9. Panzer are less than 1 hour away from the outskirts of Hamburg -way ahead of schedule!

21st Motorized Rifle Division:

1) Making use of the skillfully deployed engineers and bridging equipment the division makes good progress past the labyrinth of waterways around the area of Lauenburg-Geesthacht.
In coorperation with 9. Panzer the division attempts to encircle spotted enemy troops in the area of Schwarzenbeck-Frittau.

2) In the West the Division reaches the line of Wunsen-Bardowick, while the fast helicopter units attached to the division make a move to interdict any movement across the bridges near Hamburg. The large heli-borne Infantry detachment of 2nd Guards Tank Army has also been ordered this way. If we managed to block these bridges in the area of Neu-Wulmsdorf the enemy will be cut off completely from any possible retreat towards the West - a move which will be tough as it is with the predicted "exodus" of civilians out of Hamburg itself. The only possible route of retreat will be to the north, where they will eventually be driven in to the sea!

Comrade, Hamburg is indeed a worthwhile prize, but do you really want to get bogged down there?  Why not flatten it and leave the street to street fighting for follow-on units?  Denmark may cross its border and have to be pacified.

The war goes remarkably well, proof that the capitalist societies are full of rot.

3rd Shock Army and the push to the Weser

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn237dj3zrt209

As of 0800 June 10 the following positions have been reached:

10th Guards Tank Division:

The lead elements reached a position between Goslar - Salzgitter - Lengede - Wolfenbuttel. Near Wolfenbuttel a medium sized force of what appears to be a British Reconaissance force has been spotted and engaged by the helicopter detachment of the division.

47th Guards Tank Division:

Mainly supporting the right flank of the 10th GTD - with a focus on closing in on Braunschweig and encircleing it for follow on forces.

32nd Guards Tank Division (20th Guards Army):

The main thrust was aimed at Wolfsburg where a sizable force of what appears to be a West-German Tank Brigade has been located - again according to plan the lead elements have deployed into battle formation and will launch their attack within the next 2 hours supported my elements of the divisional artillery. If a major engagement is to be avoided early on it is vitally important that the other divisions of 20th Guards Army managed to outflank Wolfsburg to the north and thus force either a withdrawal or a surrender of the German forces.
Terrain is not advantageous for any assault here - and would be time consuming - a possible flanking route for the 32nd GTD is being reconnoitered as we speak.

76th Guards Airborne Division:

It is with great pride that High Command announces a text book airdrop behind the Weser line in the greater area of Hameln. Only two transport planes were lost in the progress as the assigned Escorts and Attack Aircraft managed to substantially penetrate and neutralize NATOs SAM umbrella for the duration of the airdrop operation! Pre-War a strong detachment of British engineers was stationed at Hameln - no sign of it yet. This operation to capture the bridges across the river Weser is being supported by a reinforced effort of deployed SPETZNAZ units to further disrupt enemy movements.

The Division is in good shape (one regiment is still being airlifted in) and will move on the bridges as soon as they have concentrated themselves. There are several bridges in the area as a possible target - which one or how many are picked will mostly be determined by enemy reaction. However two have been earmarked as the best suitable targets.

I quite agree - this is the plan: a Regiment of motorized Infantry will stay behind and contain any forces left to defend Hamburg while the armoured elements of 9. Panzer will adjoin the Race to the Nord-Ostsee Kanal. Meanwhile blocking elements of the 21st MotRifleDiv will deploy and cut off Hamburg from the West. The reinforcing Polish forces can deal with Hamburg itself!
How many forces have to be left behind completely depends on the enemy forces stationed in Hamburg itself... We managed to engage 2 Brigades of the 6th PanzerGrenDiv quite in the open - one near Lübeck and one south of Hamburg - this was unexpected but it is most welcome - less forces to deploy behind the NO-Kanal. Twisted Evil

As for the capitalists being rusty - was that ever in doubt, Comrade Marshal?

turn 4 is back with the capitalists - it is now 0900 June 10.

more detailed reports will arrive tomorrow - but I think it is safe to say: NATO is counter attacking! Quite contrary to our expectations, they seem to be defending far forward in force! Especially the 3rd Shock Army seems to have run into the entire 1st UK Armoured Division deployed in small brigade formation-like positions to the SW of Braunschweig.

The enemy fails to create a defensive line entirely but rather decided to defend strong points in key positions.

===CENSORED===

But there are also several very positive reports to be mentioned here - tomorrow however Cool

Comrade General, the Politburo has every confidence in your ability to guide 3rd Shock Army to an overwhelming victory.  The capitalist defenses are a house of cards, nothing more.  One push and it all falls over.  Soviet military doctrine anticipates every possibility.  You cannot fail. You will not fail.

Message from the Politbüro für Inneres:

"It is with great sadness that we must announce the untimely death of the correspondent who published the latest press release concerning the war on the western front! He was summoned to the Politbüro to discuss certain "inconcistencies" with the actual development of the war.
Later in the day he was unfortunately shot while trying to escape the premises.
Our thoughts go out to his family and relatives in this trying time! - Long live the Fatherland!"

5. Volksarmee and the push towards Jutland

0900 June 10:

6th Polish Airborne Assault Brigade:

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn31zxwokq3a1d

1) Lead Elements of the Paratroopers manage to take the two bridges across the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal using the invaluable scout cars having been dropped with the rest of the brigade. No resistance was encountered near the bridges per se. However, 10th Btl, 6th Para was able to engage and pin down the enemy Corps HQ "LANDJUT" at its headquarters at Rendsburg.
A few MPs and security forces are still there to protect the HQ itself, however the bombardment has already commenced, using the 2 batteries of artillery and the assault by the 10th will commence before noon!

2) a detachment of AA vehicles was spotted along the road near our artillery gun positions and will be presently engaged by the 6th Btl.

8. Mot Schützendivision:

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn32ho7riu6zwx

1) Heavy fighting around Lübeck. Our troops engage the enemy with intensive artillery and small arms fire. Furthermore the HQ decides to push past another 2 bataillons of T-55s and one bataillon of supporting mot Infantry to strengthen the push up north, while not taking off the pressure off Lübeck itself.

2) With support of a Panzerregiment of the 9. PzD we managed to encircle a strong element of PzGren of the 6th PzGrenD. The attack has already commenced and we managed to inflict considerable losses upon the enemy - over 10 Leopard 1s are reported destroyed so far. It is to be expected the destruction of this force will be concluded within the next hours - freeing these troops to continue their push north.

3) A new force of NATO troops has been spotted on the road north towards Bad Segeberg. Helicopters have been ordered to harass these forces until the main division comes up to destroy them.

4) A yet undetermined force has been spotted near Eutin. The reinforcing Panzers from Lübeck have deployed and will conduct a recon in force by 1000.

5) the heliborne assault troops of the division have been ordered to captured and hold the vital crossroads at Bat Segeberg to both hold the bridges and deter the spotted forces to the south of the town from retreating up north - noone shall escape!

9. Panzerdivision and 21st Mot Rifle Division

1) We managed to completely encircle this force of again PzGrenadiers - it looks like an entire brigade. the 21st MRD and the 9. PzD have teamed up to destroy them. Almost all of their divisional artillery assets have been deployed to support this first major attack in the northern theatre.

2) another concentrated force appears just SE of Hamburg itself - here we take a more defensive approach for now until the forces committed to deal with (1) have been released again from this task.

3) advance elements of the 21 MRD are pushing up NW and have engaged a forward element of what appears to be Mot Jaegers. they were no match for our experienced men and were pushed back in disarray!

4) our heliborne assault bataillon have captured two of the 4 bridges near Hamburg limiting NATOs ability to retreat westward. More troops are on the way.

5) some PzGrens spotted to the South of Hamburg - their strength is yet to be determined.

Across the Elbe-Kanal:

Spearheading the crossing of the Elbe Kanal were the 35 MRD and the 94 GMRD. Close behind the 207 MRD is almost across. With the 207 MRD we should be able to break into the open SW of Hamburg and make a quick thrust towards Bremen - we appear to have found a gap between the defenses.
In this initial stage of the campaign we have met very little resistance here and only now have made contact with some NATO forces in the general area.

1) A few British combat engineers seem to have missed the general action message and are caught in road column in the town of Uelzen. Any possible retreat route is blocked - a plea for surrender can be expected any minute now...

2) a strong blocking force of identified Leo 2A4s and at least 2 Btls of PzGren has been spotted west of Bodenteich. We are across the river with one Regiment of tanks and some motorized infantry - but as of yet an frontal assault across the open terrain towards the NATO positions would be foolish. We have ordered helicopter attacks on the tanks and are bombarding with all available artillery in the area, while we attempt to outflank this position in the north (4)

3) another force of NATO troops has been spotted here - somewhat less armoured than (2) but it might be another PzGren Brigade - most likely belonging to the 1. PanzerDiv

Braunschweig and the push towards the Leine

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn35zf8p0i923o

1) At Wolfsburg the situation was very confused about one hour ago - we had come across a strong position defended by Leo 2A3s and quite a number of PzGrenadiers. By 0900 we know why: It is in fact the HQ of the 1st Panzer Division. As already mentioned a frontal assault will be costly and time consuming - we have thus adopted a "pinning" operation while other elements of the 32nd GTD are outflanking the town and are encircleing it as we speak.
However it would appear that we have encountered a relief force heading towards the centre of Wolfsburg to ensure the survival of the HQ - we tried to make a crossing near this force to cut it off - but several enemy air strikes and the amphibious move across the stream have slowed us down considerbly - thus one Btl of tanks and a mot. Inf Btl are not in a somewhat precarious situation. Overall the development is very positive though - it may take some time - but it would appear that over 1,5 Brigades will be caught in the pocket at Wolfsberg.

2) the "strong point" defense doctring employed by the NATO General may slow us down in key locations but overall it enables us to always roam free at point on the map. This especially hurts his artillery assets - of which he only has few and we have already annihilated two full 24 M109 Batteries within the first 3 hours of the fight...

3) It would appear that we have come across what seems to be the 1st UK Armoured division in the greater area of Braunschweig! at least 2 Brigades have been identified near the town itself while two more are to the west of it - one still on the road.
This Division is equipped with the latester Challenger I model of tanks and quite the elite of the BAOR. Thus a Clash of Titan is about to happen! cheers
The 1st Brigade spotted is to the SE of town is trying to cut between the 47th and the 32nd GTD - a move which has been haulted.
With most of the units being tied down however we are unable to make an offensive move against this brigade YET - it is next up after the capture of Wolfsburg.
Ultimately this brigade has very little impact on our strategy since we planned to push past Braunschweig in the SW.

4) The SW is guarded by the recon elements of the 1st UK AD and one brigade of Mech Infantry. This force we have to deal with. Although already outmaneuvered it will be a while until the readiness ammo storages of this brigade are depleted - so we will have a fight here! The Recon elements are surrounded and will soon be destroyed - if possible we will only contain the brigade in the town of Braunschweig itself and push past it - however it will be difficult to maintain the attack with such a significant force in the flank - especially since HQ has still not released the reserves of the 3rd Shock Army - thus no follow-on forces are yet on the way!

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn36kmw85t604e

1) In order to delay the rest of the 1st UK we resumed blocking positions on the line between Lebenstedt - Salzgitter.

2) Furthermore we are in the process of concentrating our forces to deal with the tank brigade near Goslar - several attacks have already been successful and we managed to get 1:1 results against the Challenger 1 - mostly however because we were attacking out of a superior position and they were caught on the march.

3) (slight beneath the symbol of 7 GDT) We have spotted what appears to be a Belgian brigade in the woods to the SW of Goslar - still in road column - a detachment of the 7th Gds Tank has been sent this way while we deployed our heliborne assault units to block them from joining the British tank Bde to the east.

4) While the 10th Guards Tank seems to be somewhat stalled for now to the SW of Braunschweig the 7th Gds Tank managed to thrust deep into enemy territory and is only hours away from the vitally important crossing over the Leine near Northeim. In all likelyhood we will have made a successful crossing by 1200 June 10! cheers

Kassel and the Weser

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn37qeimjo3abw

1) the 20th GMRD of the 1st GTA managed to capture a brigde intact across the Leine just SW of Kassel in a daring heliborne assault deep into enemy territory. Combined with a surprise attack on what appeared to be a base for the dreaded PAH-2 helicopters they pushed past any NATO defenses and took the bridge in one swift attack! The supporting Mot Rgt is already en route and will arrive near the brigde around 1200 June 10 to take it over and push past Kassel towards the NW.

2) We also managed to capture a crossing near Munden, right under the eyes of a PzBrigade which appears to have been just short of reaching a position to block the bridge entirely. We deployed forward and will attack as soon as possible. Another bonus is that the leading tank bataillon ran into a battery of Missile launchers - capable of deploying tactical nukes. they will be taken and thus weaken NATOs possible strategic response should we choose to use NBC weapons after all.

3) 147th Ind. Tank Rgt is pushing up north to support the push towards Northeim - it should be there by 1200 June 10.

4) Another NATO force was spotted in the right flank of the 20th GMRD - for not we will deploy only a token force to keep NATO from getting into our flank while we push past Kassel. the 34th Artillery Division is present and will deal with any attack in the appropriate manner!

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn38ry5s6xwi4p

1) the 76th Guards Airborne Division was dropped slightly to the north of the intended zone - and thus now has to march south again to reach the intended targets in force. However some elements take an advantage of this circumstance and deploy in order to block the highway into Hannover.

2) Hameln and its bridges seem to be destroyed by a few MP only - we will take it before 1200 June 10. EXCELLENT!

3) the best news of this turn was the capture of the undefended crossing near Bodenwerder, which has already been taken into possession by an entire bataillon of Paratroopers and a detachment of AA vehicles. more troops are moving to block any possible move on this position from the West. This was most unexpected and is a welcome development in this area!
So far we have only spotted engineers in this area and a few recon tanks (Scimitars most likely) on the highway into Hannover.

Comrade General,  well done you are ahead of schedule and the capitalists have not yet been able to coordinate a coherent defense.  The civilian population will soon view you and your men as liberators, not invaders.  Those that don't will be sent east where there are large forested tracts for "re-education".  Carry on with your good work.  All of mother Russia is watching you.

so far- so good...

I am rather surprised that NATO is defending so far forward - in my campaign as NATO I opted to fall back with a few "speed-bumps" by expendable units and really defend the river lines - basically starting with the Leine a bit and then the Weser with everything I had and to the last man...

With all the units up front it will slow down my initialy advance considerably - as it will take time to deal with these units - simply killing them will consume time - BUT - in turn NATO will lack the units to mount a proper river line defense. So overall I think we are not in bad shape.... barring any new developments we should make particularly nice progress in the NW towards Bremen.

That we managed to take two crossings near Kassel unopposed and another one near Hameln is VERY impressive - and we will try to hold on to these at all costs...

keep in mind that all this has been achieved within 2 turns of actual movement - the two turns before that do not count - since WP was fixed...

The only real problem at the moment is NATO Interdiction in our rear areas - the first reinforcing division that moved towards the front was the 3rd Mot Schützendivision from the 5. NVA - it arrived this turn (I had the strategic choice to either have it attack Berlin or go towards the front - I opted for the latter) and lost around 20 vehicles, 10 guns and some 100 men from air attacks - in one turn - furthermore 4 units were disrupted by partisans...

On the other hand I hear from my opponent that WP Interdiction is just as bad (it will deteriorate over time) and that our Disruption units (Spetsnaz deployed deep within western Germany) are also doing a great job of delaying enemy movement.

I believe it is too early to tell how this will progress - it's not ideal so far - but then again, who ever expected it to be? Cool

NATO reaction 1000 June 10

Sector 1 (The drive to Jutland)

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn4n18z2wglkp5d

1) As expected we see a strong force of NATO troops head up north via the Bad Segeberg crossroads. We reported the deployment of our heliborne assault troops there to prevent such a move. I am sure NATO was quite surprised when they marched up north and suddenly came upon our well entrenched troops in the town itself. We certainly managed to delay the enemy's drive back to the NO-Kanal considerably and gave our Paratroopers up north a chance to actually capture a brigde intact while also destroying the LANDJUT HQ.

2) While the fight in Lübeck is slowly turning into our favour (our artillery is the decisive factor in this infantry dominated engagement) we spotted what appears to be a Heimatschutz Brigade near Eutin. These 3rd rate rear area troops are comprised of local militia and reserves - men who were too old to serve in the active army or who are not normally soldiers. Their equipment is 3rd rate as well - so it should present little difficulty.

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn4n22a56odktju

1) It appears that a PzGren Brigade attempts a break out from Hamburg -  but not as expected to the west or north east. They are actually attacking to the SE. Quite interesting - our flank is well protected however so HQ has little interest in dealing with those troops before the encircled PzBrigade has been utterly destroyed!

2) This turn we will kick off the assault on these isolated troops. NATO has made no attempts to break them out or to reestablish communications with the rest of the world. Thus this will be one of the major assaults of this turn. Preceeded with the artillery of 2 full divisions we will go in from 4 sides and crush them!

3) The major development of this turn on the ENTIRE front has been near Lüneburg. A strong Panzerbrigade attacked the recently liberated town of Lüneburg from the South-East and immediately retook it, causing heavy casualties to the motorized bataillon stationed there.  Our forces are spread pretty thing in this area and it will be the most important question of this turn on how to deal with this newly detected threat! at the moment there are only a few engineers that can attempt to delay this brigade - it will be 1-2 turns until follow on forces can arrive - in turn weakening the actual push towards Bremen!

Sector 2 (The drive on Bremen)

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn4n3cken5j3716

1) the detected Panzer Bde has actually left the forest and advanced against our brigde head across the channel. While inflicting considerable damage to one tank bataillon of the 35th MRD we managed to destroy or disable a considerable number of the most modern version of the Leopard 2 - the 2A4. We will have to decide this turn whether to counterattack or whether to stay where we are - bombard with artillery and wait until the northern flanking force arrives to complete the encirclement. Our troops at Bodenteich managed to dig in and fortify their position with rudementary defensive works, which should provide them with a considerable advantage over the Germans out in the open!

2) the spotted 2nd Bde in this area turned tail and advanced in the other direction - apparently it was ordered to reinforce the troops near Wolfsburg - however it came across our advance flanking elements - halting its advance. Still they managed to deal heavy damage to one of our recon elements - most likely destroying them soon!

Sector 3 (the advance to the Weser)

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn4n4qi8enst263

1) Several attempts have been made to break out of Wolfsburg - but since we completed the encirclement around 0900, all remained futile. However one bataillon of T-64s was caught in the open while making a crossing of a nearby stream and in turn received heavy casualties losing over 15 tanks in a mere 15 minutes!
We do however expect to make considerable progress in this area - freeing up substantial troops of the 32nd GTD to continue their push past Braunschweig!

2) an entire armoured Bde of the 1st UK AD has now been identified to the East of Braunschweig - current forces deployed in this area are too weak to start a frontal assault - but as soon as the situation to the S and NE of Braunschweig have been resolved we will deal with this considerabl threat there - especially since these troops appear to be digging in and have no interest of advancing for now!

3) A force, what appears to be the divisional reserves of a German division, have advanced to a position NW of Braunschweig. There they encountered our advance recon elements in good positions, which managed to halt their immediate progress. For now these troops do not pose an immediate danger for the main effort - however we will need to keep an eye on them, since they are mostly Jaegers and some divisional troops.

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn4n5y198zh2d03

1) Either a part of an entire Belgian Bde decided to make a recon in force against the lead elements of the 7th GTD on their way to Northeim and the crossings over the Leine there. The tank bataillon at the head of the column managed to inflict considerable losses on them and held the ground for now!

2) As expected the rest of the Belgians attempted to link up with the British at Goslar - a move which had been anticipated and thus blocked by our heliborne troops in the area!

3) The UK Tank Bde deployed and attempted to dislodge our troops from Goslar itself, but failed to make ANY headway. our troops in turn inflicted considerable damage on them and the way into Goslar is now filled with burning Challanger I tanks.

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 Turn4n6z0xm8oqkwu

1) a strong counterattack was started from Gosslingen towards our right flank on the push to Kassel. As explained last turn we managed to deploy a reserve regiment to face this threat and we are still in a good position to seriously damage the troops to our front in this area. the 34th Artillery Division is in position to support us with all of their 15 self-propelled artillery and rocket artillery!

2) A tank Bde made a move on our captured river crossings near Munden. some 90 Leopard 2A4s have come down the road to retake this crossing. We must defend it at all costs. Our T-80s managed to inflict some damage to the advancing tanks, but reinforcements are needed in this area immediately!

3) Light recon elements attempt to delay our push on Kassel itself - they shouldn't provide any serious issue - however we managed to destroy half of the spotted Missile Launchers before they managed to withdraw to the rear!

4) it appears that there are few troops but divisional reserves in Kassel itself. Since the Heliborne troopers at the captured crossing are attacked by motorized Jaegers and some mobile AA-guns - no match for the elite soldiers!

1) Our first attack on the encircled brigade was a complete success: We managed to inflict serious losses on the enemy while losing very few men and vehicles in return. The complete superiority in artillery was definitely helpful! We will most likely enforce a surrender in the early afternoon.

2) with the smaller pocket SW of Lübeck being destroyed we managed to resume our push northwards to help open a connection to our cut-off heliborne blocking force at Bad Segeberg. The force there is quite significant but we should be able to continously reinforce our push towards the crossings as troops become again available.

3) We managed to destroy the bridging engineers encoutered earlier this morning - now only a few PzGrens are left in town - soon they will be no more.

4) another part of th 8th MSD forms up to engage the detected Heimatschutz Bde. Any serious attack will however have to wait for artillery support!

5) the lead elements of the 1st MSD (reinforcements) arrive on the scene - however they are already somewhat fatigued from the constant air attacks and the disruption caused by both Partisans and freshely popped up enemy SAS units. We managed to corner a few of them, but the delay caused by their destruction in turn slow us down on the front line!

6) after (1) is resolved we will deal with this Bde just south of Hannover - it should be equally successful - but we'll see - they will have time to dig in - all in the open however!

1) In order to deal with the unexpected counterattack towards Lüneburg we have rushed the 94th GMRD forward to attack the Bde from the rear. Fortunately this was on the intended march route of this unit anyway. To ensure that the enemy stays where they are we have deployed a few units of the 21st MRD to block any possible route of advance - they should delay the enemy long enough for the new forces to arrive!

2) The enemy counterattack near Bodenteich has been heavily attacked by 3 Mi-24 bataillons, inflicting quite a few losses on the Leopard 2A4s. In turn we managed to wheel around 2 tank bataillons and a heliborne unit to block the enemy route of withdrawal. Around noon this Bde should also be encircled and with more artillery moving up we should be able to dispatch them with ease.

3) This move by NATO has caused us significant issues, since we are very weak in this sector, with Bodenteich being blocked as a crossing. However we decided to advance the 58th Independent Tank Rgt towards this area, which will add over 150 tanks to delay this NATO Bde.

4) This is the only area we managed to make considerable headway in the past 2 hours - we again caught up with the fleeing M109s and inflicted further losses to them. The Royal Engineers at Uelzen are all but destroyed thus freeing the route for the 207th MRD (5) to push into the open towards Bremen!

1) Near Hameln the first real enemy response force to the airdrop of the 76th GdsAirborne show up. Quite as expected it is the German Paratroop Bde of the III Corps. These elite troops (some 1500) will cause quite a bit of trouble up there, forcing us to capture Hameln with all possible speed! Of course we still hold a major crossing over the Weser anyway - so mainly we are attacking Hameln to distract the enemy from this very circumstance!

2) New troops have appeared NW of our established defensive line - we are ready and prepared to receive the enemy here!

3) We opted to ignore the new divisional reserves NW of Braunschweig for the time being - simply because we are lacking the troops to deal with them. A battery of MARS MLRS would have been a juicy target for an airstrike, but since we were limited to 3 in the entire AO we had to make the hard choice and let this opportunity go by...

4) Instead however we managed to destroy the recon element of the 1st UK AD and thus we are now pushing on Braunschweig itself. In order to free troops for the western "issues" we had the 47th GTD (6) take over all operations in this sector so that the 10th GTD can send these troops to reinforce the western flank of its advance! the 47th is at the outskirts of the town itself as of now and will commence the advance at noon. Furthermore we managed to recon the enemy's artillery position and were able to dispatch a strong bataillon of T-64s equipped to destroy mines (the old "Rhino" upgrade for the Shermans), which in turn managed to kill over 10 British SP-guns this turn alone!

5) at Wolfsberg itself we are slowly grinding down the Leopard 2A3s in town - it takes a huge effort - especially since we have to rely on SP guns of 122mm calibre only - the heavier models are employed elsewhere. We will take the town and the Bde beyond it - but most likely not before late afternoon - quite an unwelcome delay - however it will be insignificant if all the other divisions manage to push past their intended targets!

The Bear is on the prowl! - NORTHAG AO in '85 AAR - Page 2 T44p1g56kflsn

1) At Kassel itself we manage to reinforce the captured crossing with a 480men strong heliborne unit of the 1st GTA. Our armoured spearhead is approaching the outskirts of the town from both the south and the east! The enemy is deploying quite a few reserves to defend the town itself, but so far only jaegers have been spotted!

2) This counterattack by the enemy will be the most problematic one in the short run. so far the crossing at Munden is safe, but the enemy is massing over 100 tanks and some 1500 PzGrens to retake it! Our troops are digging in and all 3 air attacks have been called in to engage these forces, destroying some 10 Leo 2A4s.
The main issue is that the artillery is stuck behind to deal with the other counterattack:

3) This attack is catching us in the flank, and while we are about to flank this Brigade in turn from the east, we had to deploy our entire artillery (including the 34th Artillery Division) to halt this advance. ALmost 20 batteries fired upon the Germans out in the open and caused terrible havoc among them! For now they are stalled and our counterattack from the east, conducted by the 147th Ind Tank Rgt should soon finish them off.

4) We have taken Northeim this turn and are across the Leine with more than 2 Btls of tanks and some heliborne troops. If we encounter no opposition we should reach the Weser at the intended crossing within the late hours of June 10!

5) A Rgt of the 7th GTD has been ordered straight north to complete the encirclement of the Belgian Bde and will arrive in a position to do so within the hour!

6) As expected the UK Armoured Bde moved into Goslar itself in order to counterattack! We decided to drop artillery mines to the front and rear of this unit in order to slow them down considerably - this may delay us a bit should be able to resume the advance sooner than expected, but until then I believe it is safe to say that these mines will seriiously hamper NATO movement!

Comrade General, Central Committee is very pleased with your progress and even feel relaxed enough to return to their spas.  However, we note that progress is slow in the south.  Kassel is still in capitalist hands.  The inhabitants are yearning for socialist freedom and the paradise it brings.  Do not keep them waiting.  Do not keep Moscow waiting.

Warsaw Pact SITREP 1300 June 10

Overall Situation:

- The 5. Volksarmee is just about done with the remaining troops in Lübeck and has alreary committed a large portion of its troops to the push up North. We have reached the 2nd line of NATO troops - blocked from retreating by our valiant Heliborne Bataillon of 140 men, who have all died for the Fatherland by now... But their sacrifice has given us the opportunity to catch up in the first place and thus keep NATO from falling back onto the Nord-Ostee Kanal!
Furthermore our Amphibious Bde has started landing operations to the NE of the 6. Polish Para Bde and will soon be able to link up with them to take out LANDJUT HQ once and for all! Things are going well here - with the exception of Hamburg itself, where the appearance of yet another Bde of PzGren has slowed us a down a bit - especially since these troops bind quite a large portion of the 9th PanzerDiv. As soon as the other Bde further south has been destroyed however we will have enough troops available to deal with them!

- The 2nd Guards Tank has made major progress this turn, destroying one blocking force near a river crossing of the Elbe-Kanal. 2 fresh divisions have all but arrived at the front. One, the 94th Gds Motorized will deal with the counter attacking Division near Lüneburg, whereas the 207th Motorized will most likely be the first to make the deep thrust towards Bremen, no worrying about flanking threats for the time being. We need to make some ground here, before the Dutch show up or the 7th PanzerDivision

- 20th Guards has just released 2 reinforcing Divisions, which are on the way towards the front, albeit constant air attacks by NATO! These forces combined with the already present ones should suffice to finally crush the resistance near Wolfsberg and Braunschweig in order to split the front open here as well!

- 3rd Shock Army had the most difficulties so far, being faced with a determined counterattack by both the 1st and (now the also identified) 4th UK Armoured Division. However the brave reistance by the elite 10th Gds Tank Div and the reinforcing 47th GTD have stopped the British in their tracks and thus gave the 7th GTD the chance to break through into the Hinterland. We have already crossed the Leine and are mere hours away from the Weser and the already secured crossings there! This is a major development! We expected at least some form of resistance at the Leine, but our recon helicopters were able to reach the positions fortified by the 76th Gds Airborn without spotting a single enemy! We expect to gain a fortified foothold with the 7th GTD on the western side of the Weser before this day is out!

- 1st Guards Tank Army, with its lone available division, is making considerable progress towards Kassel, although we are unable to capture the down at this moment. Two NATO tank Bdes have caught us in the flank and must be dealt with before we can make a reinforced push towards the town itself. For now we have to content ourself with reinforceing the captured crossing with a single motorized Regiment in order to hold it until the rest of the Division shows up!

losses so far: I believe we can safely say that was is going well so far... too well maybe: what are we missing here?
